Project WILD Logo

Project WILD is one of the most widely-used conservation and environmental education programs among educators of students in kindergarten through high school.

Project WILD is based on the premise that young people and educators have a vital interest in learning about our natural world.

The program emphasizes wildlife because of its intrinsic and ecological values, as well as its importance as a basis for teaching how ecosystems function.  In the face of competing needs and pressures affecting the quality and sustainability of life on earth, Project WILD addresses the need for human beings to develop as responsible citizens of our planet.

Project WILD CoverThe Project WILD K-12 Curriculum and Activity Guide focuses on wildlife and habitat, and the Project WILD Aquatic K-12 Curriculum and Activity Guide (developed through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) emphasizes aquatic wildlife and aquatic ecosystems. Each is organized in topic units and is based on the Project WILD conceptual framework. Because these materials are designed for integration into existing courses of study, instructors may use one or many Project WILD activities or the entire set of activities may serve quite effectively as the basis for a course of study.

Each Project WILD activity contains all the information needed to conduct that activity including objectives, method, background information, a list of materials needed, procedures, evaluation suggestions, recommended grade levels, subject areas, duration, group size, setting, and key terms. A glossary is provided, as well as a cross-reference by topics and skills.

The following sample activities, one from each guide, illustrate the components of the Project WILD Activity Guides.

Teacher Doing Crafts in a Project WILD WorkshopoSo Are you interested?  Here is how you can get Your own activity Guide.  To receive an activity guide you must attend a Project WILD workshop.  Most of the time a school will decide that they want to add Project WILD and/or Aquatic WILD to their curriculum so they would call us up and we will come out and have a 3 to 5 hour workshop.

There is NO cost for the workshop.  We will provide all materials and activities guides.  All we ask from you is to have at least 12 to 25 teachers attend for the entirety of the workshop.  That's it!   The workshop is designed to introduce you to the material, do a few activities, and have fun.

If you are interested you can call (803) 734-3885 or email Steve Bates (Project WILD State Coordinator) to set up a workshop in your school.  Also you can check out the national website for more info about the program.

  • Project and Aquatic WILD is correlated to the SC State Science Standards.  Click here if you want to download these correlations.

You can also receive these activity guides if you attend an Advanced Project WILD Workshop.  Check out our upcoming Adv. Project WILD Workshops below.  Thanks and hope to see you soon!
